Community Guidelines

How we keep this space honest, respectful, and useful for everyone.

ivotelocal exists to help people understand and engage with local government. Our community space is built for thoughtful participation, not engagement addiction. Strong opinions are welcome. Personal attacks, spam, and manipulation are not.

1

Be respectful

Disagree with ideas, not people. No harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks. Don't target individuals or groups based on who they are.

2

Stay honest

Don't post false or misleading information about local government, candidates, or community issues. If you're sharing an opinion, make that clear. If you're unsure about a fact, say so.

3

Keep it relevant

Comments should relate to the post or discussion at hand. No spam, self-promotion, or repetitive posting across multiple threads.

4

No manipulation

Don't try to game the system, artificially boost content, or coordinate fake engagement. This includes creating multiple accounts or organizing brigading.

5

Protect privacy

Don't share private information about others — including personal contact details, home addresses, or identifying information they haven't chosen to make public.

6

No spam or scams

No promotional flooding, suspicious links, or attempts to deceive community members. Links are limited for new accounts.

7

Use your real presence responsibly

Accounts are tied to real identity signals. Don't impersonate others, misrepresent who you are, or use your account in ways designed to mislead.

Moderation principles

  • We prioritize healthy discussion over maximum reach or engagement.
  • Content may be removed or limited if it violates guidelines or disrupts trust.
  • Repeated violations may reduce account visibility or result in restrictions.
  • We may remove content without notice if it poses a clear risk to community trust.

Reporting and enforcement

  • Users can flag comments that feel harmful, misleading, or inappropriate.
  • Reports are reviewed by both automated systems and human moderators.
  • We may remove content, limit visibility, or restrict accounts based on behavior patterns.
  • Flagging is anonymous — the person who posted won't know who flagged them.
